Susan, Co-Founder, Institute for Open Economic Networks (I-Open), has over 25 years of office and financial management in both the corporate and nonprofit environments.
Susan worked as Special Assistant under Richard Shatten, Director of Case Western Reserve University's, Center for Regional Economic Issues (REI) from 1998 to 2002, and then under Ed Morrison, Director of REI from 2002 to 2005. Susan worked on special projects, programs, and events; led fundraising efforts with the Director to ensure long-term funding by developing funding proposals, identified significant prospects and managed the flow of relationships with donors; coordinated day-to-day activities for REI professional staff; supervised Department staff and student researchers; was responsible for grant reports and contract administration; and assisted the executive director in the hiring and evaluation of staff and researchers.

Since 2005, Susan has added her skills, responsible nature and leadership strengths to the management of grant, contract and project administration, and developed budgets and budget forecasting for proposal and sponsorship documents.
In areas of I-Open public programs, Susan has co-facilitated public forums for open discussion on critical issues in energy, education, healthcare, workforce and economic development. One example is Midtown Brews, a Midtown Cleveland, Ohio initiative that hosted civic entrepreneur forum conversations focused on health care, energy, technology and the creative industries.
A second example is the , an entrepreneurial network based in Northeast Ohio with a global reach dedicated to helping women develop business enterprises.
In addition, Susan is an integral part of the core team at I-Open, experienced in planning quarterly workshops and annual gatherings, and is especially skilled in building social networks to reach out to regional workforce development professionals, economic development practitioners and leaders in education, business and government.
